Wauwatosa Chiropractor Lowering Stress
Stress hormones can save your life in an emergency. Think about how you would feel if you were to come across a lion. Your heart rate would immediately go up, your muscles tension, your mind in an anxious state. Those are some of the effects of stress hormones. The problem is that people in our society are walking around all day long with stress hormones wreaking havoc on their bodies. Here is a list of some more effects and symptoms of chronically circulating stress hormones:
Reduce immune function (cancers), raise LDL cholesterol, increased blood pressure, weight gain (especially around the belly), insulin resistance (diabetes), decreases serotonin (depression), sleeplessness, salt cravings, chronic fatigue, decreased attention (ADD), anxiety, decreased sex drive, increased respiratory stress…just to name a few.
A simple way to lower stress hormones
Moving your spine sends signals to the brain, through the nervous system, to lower stress hormones. That’s why exercise can be very calming. When a person receives a Chiropractic adjustment, signals fire off that tell your body its okay to lower stress hormones. There is some great neurological research showing how the spine runs, powers, and modulates the brain and in turn coordinates proper function of hormones in your body.
It would be impossible for a person to expect to be well and not have their spine well-adjusted. When was the last time you had your spine checked?
Chronic Fatigue & Chiropractic
Every week people come in to my office sharing a common complaint…not enough energy. It would seem our country is suffering from chronic fatigue. Just take a look at cooler next time you’re in a gas station. They are packed full of energy drinks. Why is everyone so tired and what can Chiropractic do about it?
I believe the number one reason we are so tired is our sedentary lifestyles. It sounds crazy but the less movement and activity we get the more fatigued we are. Did you know the average westerner will sit for a total of 32 years of their life?!
I meet a lot of people that tell me they don’t sit around too much but I believe these people are simply comparing themselves to a sick and motionless society. Our ancestors as early as 500 years ago spent 12 or more hours a day on their feet and moving. Today we are lucky to spend 3 hours a day on our feet.
A simple solution: Move your spine. Get adjusted.
Did you know that your spine moving is analogous to a windmill spinning to generate electricity for the brain? Any movement such as standing, bending, twisting, extending, stretching etc. of the spine helps wake you up. Ever notice how a dog or cat stretches when they wake up or how that tired office worker arches back when their tired? It is natural reflex that moves the spine and signals the brain to become alert.
Years of sitting (starting in grade school) will slowing rob motion from your spine and reduce your ability to fully move and wake up. Even 1 millimeter of lost motion can cause your body to release stress hormones and make you tired. Chiropractic care is essential to maintaining full range of motion in your spine and support optimal energy levels.
