Some of the most rewarding patients I have treated have been the ones that suffered from years of headaches. It is always rewarding to help someone return to living without pain and return to a normal life and not depend on medications.
One of my favorite cases was a young girl (12 years old) who suffered from headaches. Three or more times a week she would come home from school and lay on her bed in pain. Getting through a simple school day had become a tortuous chore for her. She was a quiet pre-teen spending too much time in pain.
I remember the first time I felt her neck…what a mess! I knew immediately why she was suffering. She had a grossly abnormal curve in her neck that was greatly reducing proper motion and neurological function. Her mother explained how her labor with her daughter was very tough. When her daughter was young she often sat slumped over because her neck was too weak to support her head.
I began treating this girl a couple times a week. She soon began to come in smiling and more talkative. “Dr. Jeff, I haven’t had a headache all week!” she would exclaim to me. She continued to improve as the headaches became less frequent and less intense. Eventually it became normal for her to not have pain.
I’ve seen people who have suffered for so long they can’t even remember what it’s like to be out of pain. I’ve seen people who experienced a trauma, such as a car accident or a fall, and they began getting headaches. Whatever the reason I am always thankful for them allowing me to help them.
Who do you know is suffering? Who do you know who is taking pain meds every week or every day? How long can they live in pain? How long can their body take the onslaught of medications before it says no more?
Tell them about Chiropractic.
