Keto Diet vs. Atkins Diet? Who wins, and what’s the difference?
Both diets are very similar. Both are very low carb diets meaning they prescribe less than 50 grams of carbs a day.
The intention of Keto and Atkins is to induce ketosis in your body. Ketosis is when you’re using more fat for energy than glucose (sugar).
We have a LOT of research on low carb diets, and it looks good. In fact, this is my diet of choice that I prescribe to patients.
The one standout to the Keto DIet is the prescription of higher fat intake.
I personally prefer a very high protein, moderate fat, and very low carb diet.
Keto and Atkins have both shown to increase weight loss and be therapeutic for treating some diseases such as diabetes, seizures, and migraines, to name a few.
If you’re looking to lose weight and keep it off, I prefer a diet of 50 grams of carbs or less every day.
Some of Dr. Atkins’ research compared intermittent fasting to low carb diets and saw similar results.
I like to utilize both strategies.
